PoW & PoS are two different methods that can be used to achieve consensus in a decentralized network.

In a PoW system, the consensus is achieved by having nodes (also known as "miners") compete to solve a computationally difficult problem. The first node to solve the problem gets to create a new block and add it to the blockchain, and in return, it is rewarded with crypto tokens. This process is known as "mining." The difficulty of the problem is adjusted over time to ensure that a new block is added to the blockchain at a consistent rate.

In a PoS system, the consensus is achieved by having nodes (also known as "validators") stake a certain amount of cryptocurrency as collateral. The validators are then chosen to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they have staked. This process is known as "forging." The validators are rewarded with a portion of the transaction fees for the transactions included in the blocks they create.

One key difference between PoW and PoS is the way in which the nodes are chosen to create new blocks. In PoW, the nodes are chosen based on their ability to solve a computationally difficult problem, while in PoS, the nodes are chosen based on the amount of cryptocurrency they have staked. This means that in a PoW system, the nodes with the most computational power have the highest probability of creating a new block. In contrast, in a PoS system, the nodes with the most cryptocurrency have the highest probability of creating a new block.

Another key difference is the amount of energy required to maintain the network. PoW systems can be quite energy-intensive, as the nodes must continuously perform complex calculations to solve the next block. PoS systems, on the other hand, do not require as much energy, as the nodes do not need to perform any calculations to create a new block.

Both PoW and PoS have their advantages and disadvantages. PoW systems are more secure, as it is harder for a hacker to take control of the network without having a significant amount of computational power. However, they can be resource-intensive and may not be as decentralized as PoS systems. PoS systems, on the other hand, are more energy-efficient and may be more decentralized. Still, they may be less secure, as an attacker with a large amount of cryptocurrency can gain control of the network.
